Deadline European Social Innovation Competition Amsterdam

European Social Innovation Competition – The European Social Innovation Competition is seeking early-stage ideas from social innovators, entrepreneurs, students, designers, businesses, doers, makers and change creators – anyone who has an innovative and creative idea for making the fashion industry more sustainable. Amsterdam, Netherlands; Deadline Mar 4, 2020

Under the theme Reimagine Fashion: Changing behaviors for sustainable fashion, this year’s competition is looking for early-stage projects and ideas that will change the ways we produce, buy, use and recycle fashion, moving towards increased global sustainability and changing consumer behavior at local, national and European levels.

Changing the European fashion industry for the better.

Every year, EU citizens buy (on average) more than 12kgs of clothing, the production of which contributes 195 million tonnes of CO2 to the atmosphere and uses 46 billion cubic meters of water. And yet, the average European wears just 30% of the clothes in their wardrobe regularly.

This means that we’re using large amounts of non-renewable resources to produce clothes that are often used for only a short amount of time, before ending up in landfills or being incinerated. This needs to change! Visit our blog to read an interview with Slawomir Tokarski, DG GROW’s Director of Innovation and Advanced Manufacturing, to find out how this year’s competition supports the EU’s Policy Priorities and has the potential to change the European Fashion Industry for the better.

“It is an important and broad topic that matters for the planet and appeals to more and more people… so I’m very excited to see the ideas we’ll receive.” Slawomir Tokarski

Do you have a great idea?

The 2020 European Social Innovation Competition is looking to support innovative ideas and projects that aim to reduce the overall environmental footprint and improve the societal impact of fashion, help make it more accessible and fair, and contribute to change behaviors in a sustainable way. Solutions should clearly aim at delivering impact, pursue sustainability, and be scalable or replicable post-competition – at the local, national or European levels.

The European Social Innovation Competition is seeking early-stage ideas from social innovators, entrepreneurs, students, designers, businesses, doers, makers and change creators – anyone who has an innovative and creative idea for making the fashion industry more sustainable.
